I wrote on Friday about how humongous this weekend would be for the Red Sox. If you told Friday me that come Sunday, the Red Sox would have won the series and in each of their wins scored double digit runs? I would have slapped me silly. Well color my cheek scarlet.
Was pitching still an issue? Yeah, Hunter Dobbins may have gotten the win but it was a rough beginning with two homers. Zack Kelly and Robert Stock? Back to Worcester you go! But somehow, some way, 8 pitchers combined to get this over the finish line.
5 homers in a game has to feel good for this squad, as Three True Outcomes baseball as it is.
I’m not completely satiated, but my temper is more managed after a gutsy performance this weekend as a whole, especially Sunday night. Though my temper flares listening to a national broadcast salivate over Aaron Judge.
Three Studs
Carlos Narvaéz (2-for-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI)
Are the Yankees happy they have Austin Wells? Yeah. Are we really happy we have Carlos Narvaéz? Absolutely. Not just because Connor Wong has fallen off the face of the earth, I love showing the Yankees what they lost out on.
Abraham Toro (3-for-5, 2 H, 2 RBI, 1 HR)
Hold on, he might be cooking here. Solid defense at third, driving in runs, absolutely worth the roster spot right now.
Trevor Story (2-for-4, 1 HR, 2 runs scored)
Story should look back on this weekend as the weekend he may have found his mojo back. Was his homer a short porch cheapie? For sure, but at least he’s generating for this team again. I’ll take this as his mean performance.
Three Duds
Zack Kelly (0.1 IP, 2 H)
Brennan Bernardino (0.2 IP, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 H)
Robert Stock (0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, 1 HR)
Let’s get all three done at once. When your starters can’t go long, you either burn up your good bullpen arms fast or have to put bad bullpen arms on the bump. Brennan, you fit the former category; Zack and Robert, you fit the latter
